Diego Batista named NJCAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C., September 7, 2022Diego Batista of the No. 11-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team was named the NJCAA Div. I Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 4, 2022, as announced by the NJCAA on Wednesday.

Batista scored three times this past week, including a pair of crucial goals in Sunday's win over D2 No. 2 CCBC Essex. After the Mustangs fell behind at halftime on Sunday, Batista provided the tying goal on a penalty kick early in the second half. CCBC Essex tied the game late in Sunday's contest, but Batista netted the game-winner with just 67 seconds left to play. Batista also provided Monroe's first goal in an 8-1 victory over No. 18 Montgomery College on Friday. Batista is currently tied for the team lead with five goals on the season.

The Mustangs are a flawless 5-0 so far this season. They will play at home for the first time this season on Saturday, Sept. 10, when they host Atlantis University from the USCAA in an exhibition at Skidelsky Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 11 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
